I am an ecologist and creative nonfiction writer who teaches in the Department of Environmental Science and Ecology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. I grew up in California and began immersing myself in the natural world at an early age. What started as a love affair with the wilderness of the Big Sur country and High Sierra eventually led to a career in field biology and teaching. For me the outdoors remains a sanctuary and place of inspiration, a world that has nurtured my scientific research, creative writing, mind, body, and spirit. I am grateful that over the years I have been fortunate to share this world with my students, my friends, and my family.
